NOTE: This was taken from the blog of Foundations Health Solutions leader Bob Speelman. Each week Bob works at one of our Foundations Health facilities in different roles. Whether working in housekeeping or as a nursing assistant, he sees firsthand how we embody the vision of our founder and nursing home developer, Brian Colleran, to be "A Culture of Care."
Ashtabula, Ohio - I’m still amazed at what I learn every time I go to a building and work alongside our Care Team. I spent the day at Carington Park Center, our 180-bed facility in Ashtabula. Kelly Braddock is the administrator there and she has a truly amazing team. Two of those team members that I spent most of my time with were Amber Young and Madeline Goodwin.
Amber started out as a Hospitality Aide at Carington Park in April of 2019. She immediately loved it and soon finished her STNA training and become a nursing assistant on the Behavioral Health Unit at Carington Park. The residents flock to her because of her kind and loving demeanor. Amber told me she loved working in this unit and caring for her residents. She said, “This is their home. I think every day, how would I want to be treated in my own home? I want them to see me as part of their family.” Amber is 24 years old, she desires to advance in the healthcare field and we are so lucky to have her on our team.
I also worked alongside Madeline Goodwin. Madeline is 40 years old, a lead STNA, and a utility player of sorts. She has been an STNA for 20 years, does STNA training, works in restorative care, helps with medical transports, and anywhere and everywhere she’s needed. The day I was there, Madeline and I assisted Amber in the Behavioral Health Unit. We also went to the Rehab and Long-term Unit and assisted in the Dining room. We then assisted the residents during their smoke time and various other things. I quickly found out that Madeline is a passionate leader and wants the very best for her residents and her facility.
As I worked alongside Amber and Madeline and they introduced me to their Care Team members and residents throughout the day, I was greeted by a smile and a genuine warmth from everyone. I was so impressed with the feeling of family at Carington Park.
“Caregivers attract caregivers and live in a community of love. They are energized by their caring, fulfilled, and they love life.”
Gary Zukav
I spent the day with caregivers. I was immersed in our Culture of Care. If you haven’t experienced it, you need to! There’s nothing else like it in the world.
